King View: Player 'desperate' to quit Tottenham as he jets out for multi-million medical

Bryan King believes Troy Parrott will be “desperate” to leave Tottenham and push on with his own career.

The ex-Spurs scout claims the 22-year-old is not a priority for Ange Postecoglou.

As reported by BBC Sport’s Nizaar Kinsella via X (12 July), Parrott is flying to the Netherlands to undergo a medical with AZ Alkmaar ahead of a £6.7million transfer.

And King – speaking exclusively to Tottenham News – is unsurprised by this transfer development.

“I think that sounds like a standard sort of price for a player like him,” King said.

“He will be relieved to have the opportunity to play regular first-team football. I’d imagine he is desperate to push on with his own career.

“I’m guessing Postecoglou probably had bigger priorities and is happy to let the player leave. I can’t imagine Parrott is at the top of his wish list.”

It always looked as if it would be difficult for Parrott to break into the first team in North London.

Since emerging through the youth ranks at Hotspur Way the striker has managed just four first-team appearances. Therefore, he would have likely felt as though this was the right time to move on.

And a transfer to the Netherlands to play in the Eredivisie makes a lot of sense.

Parrott spent the 2023/24 campaign in the Dutch top flight with Excelsior Rotterdam.

As a result, he will already be accustomed to the country and style of football and will have a greater chance of hitting the ground running with his new club.
