Rangers Exclusive: Big James Tavernier update tonight after 'Astronomical' offer

James Tavernier’s future at Rangers remains firmly “in the air” as interest from the Saudi Pro League intensifies.

Speaking on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track Podcast, senior correspondent Pete O’Rourke revealed that the right-back could still depart Ibrox Stadium this summer.

Despite Tavernier recently linking up with his fellow teammates for pre-season, offers are expected to come in for him to Rangers during this window with Saudi deals expected to arrive later in the window after the Euros and Copa America finish.

Football Insider previously revealed that Al-Ettifaq offered an “astronomical” package to the 32-year-old that he has accepted.

That potential move would see Tavernier link up with former manager Steve Gerrard, and speculation surrounding his future isn’t expected to stop during the entire window.

Sources say that his future remains in limbo as Rangers decide whether or not they want to cash in on him to strengthen the squad.

Allowing Tavernier to leave would transform Rangers, considering his defensive and offensive impact.

The right-back scored an impressive 24 goals in 58 appearances last season and is currently under contract at Ibrox until 2026.

Tavernier has been a regular in the team since joining in 2015, having played 460 times in all competitions for the Gers since that point.

Football Insider previously revealed that the Gers could not afford to sign Abdallah Sima this summer due to the complications surrounding Ibrox renovations.

The lack of money available could lead to the club allowing star players to leave so a level of reinvestment can be made into the squad, which might impact Tavernier’s future at the club.
